The number of parking tickets issued on the Isle of Wight rose sharply in 2025, reaching their highest level in at least four years – despite overall income from fines falling compared to previous years.
New figures show a total of 30,714 penalty charge notices (PCNs) were issued across the Island in 2025, up from 27,948 in 2024, 25,911 in 2023, and 26,034 in 2022.
However, despite more tickets being handed out, the total amount paid by motorists fell to £770,544.06 in 2025, the lowest annual total since 2022.
By comparison, parking fines brought in £801,837.54 in 2024 and £798,161.50 in 2022.
Increase in tickets, drop in revenue
Both on-street and off-street parking penalties increased during 2025, with noticeable rises during the summer months.
July and August saw particularly high enforcement activity, with more than 3,000 tickets issued in each month, reflecting peak visitor numbers and increased pressure on parking spaces.
Despite this, the average amount recovered per ticket was lower than in previous years, suggesting more motorists may be paying at discounted rates, successfully appealing fines, or delaying payments.
On-street penalties remain dominant
As in previous years, on-street parking contraventions made up the majority of tickets issued, consistently accounting for well over half of all penalties across every month.
Off-street parking tickets – including council car parks – also increased steadily through the year, with 2025 recording the highest off-street totals seen in the four-year period.
Long-term trend
While ticket numbers dipped slightly between 2022 and 2023, enforcement has risen year-on-year since, culminating in the 2025 peak.
However, income from parking penalties has not followed the same upward trend, remaining broadly flat before dipping last year.
The figures suggest that while enforcement activity on the Isle of Wight has intensified, it has not translated into higher revenue from parking fines.
