Residents at Orchard House Care Home recently marked the Chinese New Year, welcoming the Year of the Horse with a creative and joyful afternoon.
The celebration saw residents making traditional Chinese lanterns, each adding their own personal touch to the vibrant decorations.
Handcrafted lanterns are now proudly displayed on a special illuminated lantern tree at the home’s entrance, offering a colourful welcome to visitors and families.
To complement the activity, residents sampled a variety of Chinese snacks, including spring rolls and prawn bites, creating a sociable atmosphere filled with laughter and shared moments.
Katie Schlepp, Head of Lifestyle at Orchard House, said:
“Celebrating different cultures is something we truly value at Orchard House.
"Moments like this bring people together, spark creativity, and create lasting memories for our residents.
"Seeing the lanterns now lighting up our entrance makes it even more special.”
Residents also learned about traditional customs, including the playful belief that washing hair, taking out the rubbish, or doing laundry on Chinese New Year could wash away good luck — adding a fun twist to the day.
Orchard House continues to host themed events and cultural celebrations as part of its commitment to enriching residents’ lives and creating meaningful daily experiences.
