From 1 October, all GP practices on the Isle of Wight will extend their online consultation hours, offering access from 08:00 until 18:30.
The change is part of the NHS 10-year plan to increase community-based care and give patients more choice in how they contact their GP. Online consultations can be used to describe symptoms, request advice or prescriptions, and manage certain conditions.
James Roach, Director of Primary Care at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, said the move will help practices prioritise urgent cases while giving patients flexible options.
A new patient charter, outlining what people can expect from their practice and how they can support their GP team, will also be published online from October.
Officials are encouraging patients to support local practices by cancelling unneeded appointments, ordering prescriptions on time, and making use of NHS digital tools to reduce pressure on GP services.
