Night-Time Road Closures Planned For Busy Routes In Ryde And Staplers

Motorists are being advised of a series of overnight road closures as improvement works get underway on three busy Isle of Wight routes.

Island Roads has confirmed resurfacing works will take place at St John's Road Bridge and Marlborough Road in Ryde, as well as the Staplers gyratory system at the junction of Long Lane and Godric Road.

The programme will run throughout late October and early November, with all closures scheduled between 7.30pm and 6am to minimise disruption.

Unlike more extensive projects, including forthcoming improvements at Godshill, the work will not require deep excavations, allowing affected roads to reopen during the day.

However, motorists are being warned that temporary road surfaces may remain in place until the final surfacing is completed, and additional care should be taken.

The planned schedule is as follows:

• October 27: St John's Road Bridge will close for one night to prepare for new high-friction surfacing, which will be applied in November.

• October 28, 29 and 30: The Staplers gyratory system will undergo reprofiling and resurfacing over three nights to provide a smoother road surface.

• From November 2: Marlborough Road will be resurfaced between Circular Road and Westridge Cross, with work taking place over six nights.

Island Roads said the timetable had been agreed with the Isle of Wight Council, with overnight working and scheduling outside the peak holiday season intended to reduce inconvenience.

A spokesperson said:

"It is impossible to work on main roads like these without having some local impact but working at night in October and November will, we hope, minimise the inconvenience.

"We would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their understanding during these works."

The programme remains subject to change depending on weather conditions and any unexpected issues encountered during the work.
