The Isle of Wight Council is urging residents to use the official GOV.UK website after reports of people being charged extra fees by third-party services.

The authority says some websites appear similar to official services but charge significantly more than the standard £10 fee for a Blue Badge on the Isle of Wight.

These sites may offer to complete applications on behalf of residents and can appear in internet search results.

The council says applications should be made through the official GOV.UK website.

Applicants are not asked to pay the £10 fee when they first apply.

The council only requests payment after an application has been assessed and eligibility confirmed.

Laura Gaudion, the council’s director of adult social care and housing needs, is urging Islanders to check website addresses carefully before entering personal or payment details.

Friends, family members and carers are also being encouraged to help anyone who is less confident online to find the correct application service.
