Newport’s Slug & Lettuce To Close After Eight Years

The Slug & Lettuce cocktail bar in Newport is to close its doors this weekend, bringing an end to eight years at the High Street venue.
The popular bar and restaurant at 23-26 High Street has confirmed it will shut, with the team thanking customers and the local community for their support.
In a message on social media, the venue said it had been "more than just a bar", with customers celebrating birthdays, enjoying bottomless brunches, going on first dates and making memories on nights out.
The team said:
"After (eight) incredible years, we’re closing our doors.
"We want to say a heartfelt thank you to our guests and the local community for your loyalty and support.
"We’d love you to join the team on Saturday the 12th September for a final ‘cheers’."
The closure marks the end of a significant chapter for the town centre venue, which has been a popular destination for drinks, food and late-night celebrations since opening eight years ago.
The building itself has a history dating back much further, having previously been used as a cinema.
Its owner, Stonegate Pub Partners, has now advertised the former Slug & Lettuce premises as an opportunity for a new operator.
It is not yet known what will replace the venue.
The Slug & Lettuce team ended its farewell message by thanking everyone who had supported the business over the years.
