A new restaurant is to be opened by the owner of Ryde’s popular Ada Mediterranean Kitchen.

Planners have given the go ahead to Sinan Keskin’s application for a change of use of 165 High Street in Ryde.

Mr Keskin’s proposal 25/00728/FUL is for a ‘relaxed bistro type venue’ at the premises, previously home to a Caring Cancer Trust shop and prior to that, Hobbs Jewellers, which closed in August 2017.

Caring Cancer Trust left the property at the end of 2024, according to a Design and Access Statement.

Mr Keskin said:

“Having run a very successful and popular restaurant on Union Street for more than ten years, I am now open to new challenges.
“Our existing location is well considered and has a wide and varied customer base of both regular locals and visiting tourists and professional people.
“My plan for this location would be to extend this and create a relaxed bistro type venue that I believe would encourage footfall to this part of the high street.
“It is discouraging to see the amount of high street locations that are currently either closed or given over to charitable endeavours as there seems to be little draw to this part of town.
“My proposal will require much time, energy and funding but I have lived on the Island for many years, having grown to love it and consider it home.”

County Hall’s decision report says:

“The proposed restaurant use would increase footfall in this part of the High Street, which would benefit the economy of the various surrounding uses.”

Planners attached seven conditions to the consent for reasons of legal and planning policy compliance, mitigating ‘impacts from odour’ and protecting local amenity.
