The Isle of Wight’s new High Sheriff is encouraging residents to plan ahead for the end of life as part of a new Island-wide campaign.

Nigel Hartley was officially appointed at Newport Minster on Monday, taking over from Jacqueline Gazzard.

As part of his year in office, the former Mountbatten CEO has launched the ‘My Life, My Death, My Plan’ campaign in partnership with Mountbatten and other organisations.

The initiative encourages people to make end-of-life plans early, including writing a will, setting out personal wishes and having conversations with loved ones.

Mr Hartley said a lack of planning can lead to unnecessary distress for families and added pressure on health and care services.

Those who sign up to the campaign will receive guidance and support, including help with creating an Advance Care Plan.

The campaign is open to all residents, with more information available via Mountbatten’s website.
