Neighbours Object To Plans For Four Homes In East Cowes

Plans to build four low-cost homes on a garden in East Cowes have attracted objections from nearby residents.

The proposal would see two pairs of semi-detached chalet bungalows built at 109 Old Road, along with parking and a new vehicle access from Oaks Close.

Neighbours have raised concerns including overdevelopment, overlooking, highway safety and Japanese Knotweed on the site.

One resident, Richard White, says the development would result in his home being overlooked by the proposed properties, with 12 or more windows potentially facing his bedrooms and family bathroom.

He also raised concerns about noise, disturbance and the loss of his current outlook.

Another neighbour, Karen Sunderland, questioned whether Oaks Close is suitable for the new access, describing it as a relatively narrow residential road which can already be difficult for larger vehicles.

Concerns have also been raised about Japanese Knotweed.

Resident Gregory Wilson said the plant could return despite being treated, while Mr White claimed the application does not adequately address its presence.

However, the applicant's planning agent, Paul Stack, says the development would be of a "minor and sympathetic scale" and would not affect nearby residents' amenities.

He also said advice from Island Roads during pre-application discussions was generally supportive of the highway proposals.

A preliminary ecological assessment has been carried out, with the report stating that the Japanese Knotweed will require a management strategy for its removal and eradication.

The Isle of Wight Council's consultation on the application runs until September 21, with a decision expected on October 13.
