A major national project will bring world-famous artworks to the Isle of Wight this year, with locations now confirmed for a new trail in Newport.
The National Gallery’s Art On Your Doorstep will see 18 life-size reproductions of iconic paintings displayed across the town from May 6 to October 30.
The Isle of Wight is one of just a handful of locations selected to host the trail in 2026, as part of a three-year UK-wide programme.
A step-free, one-mile route has been designed to make the trail accessible to all, taking visitors through Newport town centre, historic squares, traditional alleyways and down to the harbour.
The artworks have been chosen by local community groups and a school, with many selected to reflect their surroundings.
Each piece will be reproduced in full scale and detail, allowing visitors to experience the paintings up close.
The project has been secured by the Isle of Wight Council through the Shaping Newport partnership, alongside Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council and the Newport Business Association.
The initiative aims to enhance the town using feedback from more than 3,000 residents.
Councillor Julie Jones-Evans said the council was “extremely excited” to welcome the trail, adding it is hoped the exhibition will encourage people to explore Newport and enjoy its heritage.
Among the artworks on display will be The Water-Lily Pond by Claude Monet, Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh, and The Fighting Temeraire by J. M. W. Turner.
Other pieces include works by artists such as Gustav Klimt and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, displayed at locations ranging from St Thomas Square to the harbourside.
A full map of the trail will be released ahead of its launch.
