Murder Mysteries, Wine Tastings And Royal Etiquette On Offer At Isle Of Wight Literary Festival

The Isle of Wight Literary Festival is set to offer far more than book talks this October, with a packed programme of special events including murder mysteries, wine and whisky tastings, live music and royal etiquette.

The four-day festival returns to Cowes from 8th-11th October, with headline appearances from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Amanda Barrie, Celia Imrie and Mary Portas already confirmed.

Among the highlights is an afternoon tea with former royal butler Grant Harrold, who served King Charles III and Queen Elizabeth II during his time in the Royal Household.

Taking place at the Royal Ocean Racing Club on Saturday 10th October, the event will see Grant share his expertise on royal etiquette, offering guests an insight into the dos and don'ts of life around the Royal Family.

Crime fiction fans can also put their detective skills to the test with a murder mystery written by bestselling author Ann Cleeves, creator of Vera and Shetland, who is also appearing at this year's festival.

The interactive event centres on the murder of a yoga teacher at The Woodyard community arts centre, leaving participants to uncover the culprit alongside Inspector Matthew Venn.

Saturday evening's entertainment comes from Cowes-based singer and G4 member Mike Christie, who will perform Some Enchanted Evening – The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein and More! at Northwood House.

Wine enthusiasts can enjoy a tasting session with television wine expert Helen McGinn on the festival's opening day.

Alongside sampling wines, she'll discuss her latest book, Supermarket Wine Guide, which features more than 180 bottle recommendations, food pairings and advice on choosing the best wines for every occasion.

The ever-popular Fizz Quiz also returns to the Island Sailing Club on the festival's opening night.

Whisky lovers haven't been forgotten either, with author and whisky expert Ian Buxton hosting a tasting session at the Royal Ocean Racing Club on the Friday afternoon. Guests will sample Scottish island whiskies while hearing about his latest edition of Whiskies Galore.

The festival will also feature Write on Wight events showcasing local authors, while Royal Yacht Squadron Honorary Historian Commodore David Hughes will lead tours of the world-famous club throughout the weekend.

Tickets for the 15th Isle of Wight Literary Festival are due to go on sale in mid-August.
