Motorists and pedestrians across the Isle of Wight are being advised to plan ahead, with a large number of temporary road and footpath closures scheduled from late January through to mid-February.
Island Roads, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, has confirmed that the closures are required to allow a range of works to take place, including utility works, carriageway and footway repairs, drainage improvements, tree and vegetation removal, street furniture repairs and public events.
Among the upcoming closures are Brookside Road in Freshwater overnight on 10 February, Buckbury Lane in Newport from 9 to 12 February, and High Street and Market Square in Yarmouth on the morning of 10 February for the Yarmouth Pancake Race.
Green Street in Ryde will also be closed between 3 and 6 February, while New Barn Road in East Cowes will remain shut until 6 February.
Several routes in Ryde, Shanklin, Binstead, Bembridge, Brighstone, Brook, Shorwell, Newport, Rookley, Seaview, Porchfield, Newchurch and Chale are also affected by one-shift or short-term closures over the coming weeks.
In addition, a temporary footpath closure is in place on Longhalves Lane in Freshwater for up to six months due to a dangerous third-party tree, while Sandown and Shanklin Byway 18 is closed between 19 and 23 January for utility works.
A temporary one-way system has also been introduced on sections of Elenor’s Grove and Quarr Hill in Binstead until April, with exemptions in place for buses, school transport, emergency services and essential council vehicles.
Diversions will be clearly signposted for all affected routes, and closures may be lifted earlier if works are completed ahead of schedule.
Residents are encouraged to allow extra time for journeys and check local signage for the latest updates.
