A number of road closures and parking restrictions are set to come into force across the Isle of Wight throughout July as essential maintenance and utility works take place.
Island Roads, working on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, has confirmed a wide programme of temporary closures affecting towns and villages including Ryde, Newport, Sandown, Shorwell, Ventnor, Cowes, Godshill and Lake.
The works, which include utility upgrades, carriageway repairs, drainage investigations and surfacing schemes, will see roads closed at various times between late June and early September.
Among the affected routes are Mill Lane in Shorwell (9–13 July), Pallance Lane in Northwood (6–10 July), Presford Shute (7–9 July), New Road in Sandown (6–24 July), Southgrove Road in Ventnor (6–8 July) and Vectis Road in East Cowes (6–10 July).
In Newport, several roads including Heytesbury Road, New Street, Vicarage Walk and Elm Lane will also face closures during the programme, while Ryde will see restrictions on a number of streets including Esplanade and Nelson Place.
A temporary closure will also be in place in Ryde on Saturday 4 July for the Mardi Gras street parade, affecting several key town centre roads between 2pm and 6pm.
Meanwhile, a number of longer-term and phased schemes will see rolling closures and parking restrictions introduced across the Island for resurfacing, lining, hedging and drainage works.
Island Roads says exact dates, times and diversion routes will be signposted locally, and residents and businesses in affected areas will be contacted directly ahead of works where necessary.
The council has advised motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys during the affected periods.
