The Mountbatten Group of Hospices has welcomed an additional £369,911 in government funding to support vital improvement work across its services, including Mountbatten Isle of Wight.
The funding has been awarded through the Department of Health and Social Care’s Phase 2 Capital Grant, bringing Mountbatten’s total allocation for 2025/26 to £1,365,778.
The money will be shared between Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Mountbatten Hampshire, which together support people across the Island, Southampton and large parts of Hampshire.
Chief Executive Becky McGregor said the funding will allow the charity to complete essential refurbishments in areas used by patients and their families, as well as purchase much-needed equipment as part of a planned programme of improvements.
However, she stressed the grant can only be used for capital projects and cannot be spent on staffing or the round-the-clock clinical care provided by Mountbatten’s teams.
Across both hospices, Mountbatten currently supports around 4,500 people each day, with demand for its services increasing by more than 70 per cent over the past three years.
While welcoming the funding, Mountbatten says it continues to face significant challenges in meeting day-to-day running costs.
The charity is calling for more consistent and predictable NHS funding to help ensure long-term sustainability.
Around two thirds of Mountbatten’s running costs are currently met through community support, including donations, fundraising events, gifts in Wills and income from its network of charity shops.
