Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Mountbatten Hampshire, are in the running for seven accolades at the Palliative and End of Life Care Awards 2025.
Organised by Care Talk magazine, the awards recognise both outstanding care professionals and initiatives that improve how people live and die.
The Mountbatten Group’s sister hospices will both be represented on the night, across a host of categories.
They are:
Mountbatten Hampshire’s care at home team, shortlisted for the Palliative Care at Home Provider Award.
Mountbatten Hampshire occupational therapist, Tania Heasman, shortlisted for an award for Innovation in End-of-Life Social Care Award, for her work with virtual reality at end-of-life.
The multi-disciplinary team behind Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s John Cheverton Centre, shortlisted for the Community Palliative Care Team Award.
For Walk the Wight, Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s fundraising team is in the running for Best Fundraiser.
The shortlist for the Bereavement Support Award includes Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s Bereavement Team. Its trained staff and volunteers provide free care to all Islanders, whether or not a death occurred at the hospice or in the care of its community team.
Lead inpatient unit nurses, Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s Theresa McNamara and Mountbatten Hampshire’s Amanda Smart, shortlisted for the Excellence in Palliative Care Nursing (Not for Profit) Award.
Mountbatten Group CEO, Nigel Hartley, MBE, shortlisted for an award honouring Lifetime Achievement for Excellence in Palliative Care.
Staff will find out if they have won during a ceremony at London’s Hilton Bankside, on Friday, 27 June.
Mountbatten Isle of Wight is facing a proposed NHS funding cut of £600,000 this Autumn and £1.4 million in 2026/7, after a decision to ‘reallocate’ its funding was made by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board, the organisation which allocates NHS funds.
It costs £10.5 million per year per hospice to run Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Mountbatten Hampshire. Around one-third of this vital funding comes through the ICB.
Talks between the Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB and the Mountbatten Group are ongoing.
