Ryde Model Yacht Club has donated more than £700 to Mountbatten Isle of Wight following its annual charity regatta.

The event, held at Ryde Canoe Lake on June 28, raised £722.82 through donations from spectators and additional contributions. Fifteen Marblehead class yachts took part in the racing, with Chris Brooks winning the competition.

Club members later visited Mountbatten's Chelsea Garden to present the cheque, adding to the thousands of pounds the organisation has raised for Island charities over the years.

Ryde Model Yacht Club Commodore Pete Dommett thanked everyone who supported the fundraiser, including sponsor Jewson, saying the club was proud to back the charity through its annual event.

Founded in 1874, the club is one of the oldest model yachting clubs in the UK. It has sailed at Ryde Canoe Lake since 1882 and remains a longstanding part of the Island's sporting heritage.
