Missing Dog Located After Multi-Day Search Near Sandown

A missing rescue dog feared lost on the Isle of Wight has been found safe after an extensive multi-day search near Sandown.

Rose, a 15-year-old Shiba Inu, disappeared while on holiday and was last spotted around Apse Heath and Lower Hyde. Described as extremely nervous, her disappearance prompted a large response involving specialist search teams and volunteers.

The search began on April 26, with teams covering ground daily using a combination of tracking methods. Support came from local volunteers and Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW, who deployed drones equipped with thermal imaging to scan difficult terrain.

Rose was located during a routine search yesterday morning (Monday) by the TrackAdog Team, who confirmed she had been safely secured. She was later checked by vets and given a clean bill of health.

Search organisers have thanked landowners for granting access and members of the public who reported sightings, describing the outcome as a “team effort.”

Volunteers involved in the operation have also been praised for their persistence, with teams working long hours throughout the search.
