The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed it is in discussions with the Hayward family to arrange a private meeting about the future of Ryde's closed splash park.

The park, opened in memory of five-year-old Isaac Hayward who died in 2001, has been shut for four years and has fallen into disrepair. Once operated by the Waterside Community Trust, it is now owned directly by the council.

After weeks of uncertainty and a lack of communication, the council has now confirmed it has been in contact with the family, following enquiries by Island Echo. A date for a behind-closed-doors meeting is being arranged.

A council spokesperson said they “welcome a meeting to discuss the splash park and share thoughts and ideas with the family.”

Campaigners are hoping the meeting will lead to a commitment to preserve the facility—either at its current site or elsewhere in Ryde.

The petition remains open at change.org.
