A man has sadly died following a major emergency response in Shanklin this morning (Wednesday).

Emergency services were called shortly before 7am after the man was taken seriously ill at a B&B on the Esplanade.

Ambulance crews were supported by firefighters from Shanklin, while the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed on the nearby beach to bring specialist doctors and paramedics to the scene.

Despite more than two hours of treatment, and plans to transfer the patient to hospital, his condition deteriorated and he was taken to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.

Police and Coastguard teams were also in attendance to support the operation.

Sadly, it was later confirmed that the man had passed away. His next of kin have been informed.

This was the second incident of the day for the Air Ambulance, which had already been called to Ryde during the early hours of the morning.
