A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an alleged serious assault in Ryde.
A large Police presence was seen on Warwick Street shortly before 3pm yesterday afternoon (Monday), with officers surrounding a property before forcing entry.
A Police drone was deployed and hovered overhead as officers carried out the operation, with one officer climbing a ladder to gain a vantage point into the rear garden.
Officers then used specialist equipment, often referred to as the ‘big red key’, to force entry by breaking through a panel at the bottom of the door and climbing inside.
In the lead-up to the arrest, a number of officers were seen searching in and around Ryde town centre.
The incident follows an alleged serious assault on a 20-year-old man on The Strand shortly before 9pm on Sunday.
It is understood the victim was attacked with a hammer, leaving him requiring hospital treatment.
The suspect, a 35-year-old man, remains in custody at Newport Police Station.
