Man Arrested After Reported Assault In Newport

A 38-year-old man from the mainland has been arrested after a woman was reportedly assaulted at an address in Newport.

Police were called to a property on Staplers Road at around 4.22am today (Wednesday).

Officers attended and arrested the man, who is from Hythe.

He's being held on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage and obstructing or resisting police.

He was taken into custody at Newport Police Station.
