A shepherd’s hut with an outdoor kitchen, sauna and mini-meadow could be installed as ‘high quality’ tourism accommodation at an Isle of Wight alpaca and llama farm.

N. and M. Payne have applied for planning permission to site the one-bedroom structure, ‘suited to singles and couples’ short breaks’, at West Wight Alpacas (WWA) between Wellow and Thorley.

The hut proposal will give the farm and tourist destination an ‘alternative revenue stream’ with greater stability and less reliance on day-to-day weather, according to a statement from Planning and Development Hub.

It says:

“This would relieve the pressure on the reliance of the farm visitors, providing stability and jobs security.
"Although considered a minor development, it will importantly improve the profitability and long-term security of the business by providing a more stable income.
“The business can then focus once more on the core activities, including the award-winning breeding programme.”

County Hall’s public consultation on application 25/01314/FUL ends on November 21 and a decision has been scheduled for December 15.
