Joedan Windows Wins Approval For Major Expansion Near Newport

Over 100 jobs are set to be created from approved plans to expand a window and door manufacturer’s operations near the Isle of Wight’s county town.

Joedan Windows has been granted planning permission to extend an existing commercial building and construct a new one at the former Snows site on Forest Road, outside Newport.

The company announced the purchase of the building at the beginning of this year.

It has an existing showroom and warehouse in Newport and its commercial premises in the Breakwaters development in Sandown will be operational in 2027, the firm said.

Joedan Windows’ agent, BCM Wilson Hill, previously told County Hall the proposal will deliver significant economic benefits and allow the firm to grow its Island operations from 42 employees to around 150 within three years.

A council decision report said:

“The proposals would expand the premises, allowing additional employment and manufacturing to take place on the Island.

"In Island terms, the additional jobs generated by the proposals would be significant.

“Subject to landscaping, the proposed development would not harm the character of the surrounding countryside when seen from vantage points to the north, south or east.”

A total of 14 planning conditions have been attached to the consent, for respective reasons including the interests of the visual amenities of the site and surrounding area, highway safety, ecological protection as well as planning policy and legal compliance.

Joedan Windows previously said the development will support local employment, apprenticeships and skills development and represents inward investment in a sustainable rural location.
