The Isle of Wight’s Youth Justice Service has been recognised with a top national honour — winning the John Hawkins Award for Innovation and Creativity in Youth Justice.

The award was presented at the Association of Youth Offending Team Managers’ autumn conference, where the Island’s team was chosen from eight nominees across the UK for their outstanding work supporting young people during the 2025 school summer holidays.

Ashley Whittaker, the Isle of Wight Council’s Strategic Director of Children’s Services, said:

“This award is testament to the dedication, creativity, and compassion that our Youth Justice Service team consistently provides.
"Their Summer Offer 2025 not only inspired national recognition, but more importantly, it made a lasting impact on the lives of the young people we serve.”

Councillor Debbie Andre, the council’s representative on the Youth Justice Management Board, added:

“The Youth Justice Service exemplifies what can be achieved when partnerships are strong and the voices of children, young people, and families are truly heard.
"Their innovative approach and commitment to early intervention and community wellbeing are outstanding.”

The John Hawkins Award celebrates exceptional innovation in youth justice across the country — and this latest recognition highlights the Island’s growing reputation for excellence in supporting young people.
