The Isle of Wight Sea Pool project will soon reveal a brand-new look, created through a successful collaboration with the Isle of Wight College.

Final-year Graphic Design student James Watson designed the new identity – including logo, icon and supporting visuals – as part of his Level 3 Graphic Design course.

James worked with support from his lecturer, Louise Downer, and fellow students.

The Sea Pool team wanted to keep the project rooted in local talent, offering young creatives the chance to play a part in shaping one of the Island’s most exciting future developments.

Board Director Marnie Janaway approached the College with the idea, challenging students to submit design concepts.

Two strong entries stood out, but James’s work was chosen as the winning design.

He will now join the project’s marketing team to apply his branding across its website, social media, signage and promotional materials – gaining valuable commercial experience along the way.

As recognition for his work, James has been awarded £250 towards his future studies.

He will begin a Marketing degree at Portsmouth University this month and will also continue to act as brand custodian for the Isle of Wight Sea Pool.

Sue Barker, Project Board Director, said:

“As a project team we aim to use local skills wherever we can.
"This collaboration not only fulfils that but brings new energy into the team. We’ve been really impressed with James’s creativity and professionalism and can’t wait to see the new brand rolled out.”

Louise Downer, Graphic Design Lecturer, added:

“Collaborations like this give our students invaluable real-world experience.
"It allows them to put their skills into practice and helps showcase the talent we have here on the Island.
"This project will highlight our students’ work for years to come.”

The Isle of Wight Sea Pool’s new logo and brand identity will be officially launched later this autumn.
