Drivers on the Isle of Wight are being warned of a series of road closures and restrictions over the coming weeks as highways works are carried out.

The Isle of Wight Council, working with Island Roads, has announced a number of temporary closures affecting towns and villages across the Island.

Among the upcoming works, High Street, Newport will be closed overnight between March 30 and April 1 for ironwork repairs, while Rowlands Lane, Ryde and Yarmouth Road, Cranmore will also shut for short periods for ditching and repair works.

Closures are also planned for Merstone Lane, Godshill and Moons Hill, Totland in early April.

Longer-running restrictions include Highfield Road, Shanklin, which will be closed from March 30 to April 4, and Gort Road, East Cowes, shut until April 10 for utility works.

A programme of resurfacing and maintenance will also see a number of roads and paths closed for up to 15 days at a time between March 27 and May 8.

These include Clarendon Close, Brading, Coxs Green, Sandown, Bannermans Path in Freshwater, Kennedy Path in Wootton, Kings Path in Binstead and Freshwater Bridleway 18.

Meanwhile, a separate programme of overnight works between March 20 and May 1 will affect several roads in Ryde and Ventnor, including Argyle Street, Green Street, Great Preston Road and Castle Road.

Elsewhere, a number of shorter closures are already in place or due to begin this month, including roads in Newport, Shorwell, Ventnor, Brighstone and Cowes for carriageway and utility repairs.

Motorists are advised that diversion routes will be signposted locally, and that exact dates may change depending on weather conditions.

Residents and businesses affected will be contacted in advance where possible.
