New figures show the Isle of Wight has the lowest percentage of top A-Level results in the country.

Just 18% of exam entries from Island students this year were graded A* or A – compared to a national average of 28.3%. The figure was revealed in data published by the Daily Mail last week.

It means the Island sits at the bottom of the table, while students in Rutland, in the East Midlands, came out top, with around 41% of entries awarded the highest grades.

The Island’s 2025 results are up slightly on last year, but remain well below the 36% recorded in 2021, when exams were replaced by teacher assessments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Parents have also voiced concerns online, with some calling for more investment in post-16 education on the Island to give young people the same opportunities as their mainland peers.
