Isle Of Wight Primary School Closes Early Following Suspected Gas Leak

A Ryde primary school has been forced to close early today after a suspected gas leak.

Oakfield CE Primary School shut its doors shortly after midday on Wednesday after a utility issue was reported on site.

Engineers from gas network operator SGN are currently at the school working to assess and resolve the situation.

Parents were contacted and asked to collect their children “as soon as possible” as a precaution while the situation was dealt with.

In a message shared with families, the school confirmed it had taken the decision to close due to an emergency gas issue.

It is understood the gas supply has now been isolated while engineers carry out further checks.

No injuries have been reported.
