An Isle of Wight Police Officer has been dismissed as a result of lying to colleagues and failing to follow instructions during a criminal investigation.
He has also been placed on the Barred List for a minimum of five years.
It was alleged that in June 2023, PC Brookes gave false information to several colleagues relating to someone who had breached their bail conditions by having contact with him.
Between May and October 2023, PC Brookes reportedly failed to follow instructions from his supervisor to carry out enquiries in relation to a mobile phone seized as part of an ongoing investigation.
He also gave false information in relation to actions he had carried out in relation to what he had been asked to do.
The misconduct hearing concluded on Friday (19th July).
Outcome
The panel ruled that these allegations are proven and amount to gross misconduct, breaching the standards of professional behaviour, namely Honesty and Integrity and Duties and Responsibilities.
Sanction
The panel determined that the officer should be dismissed with immediate effect and will be placed on the Barred List for a minimum of five years.
