The Isle of Wight NHS Trust’s Endoscopy Unit at St Mary’s Hospital has been awarded full national accreditation from the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) — a leading mark of excellence for endoscopy services across the UK.

JAG accreditation is given only to services that meet the highest standards of patient care, safety, and clinical quality.

Inspectors praised the Island’s Endoscopy Unit for its strong leadership, teamwork, and commitment to patient-centred care.

The unit was recognised for:

  • Excellent patient flow and consistent respect for privacy and dignity.

  • Safe, supportive working practices that help staff develop and thrive.

  • An innovative inpatient review system led by endoscopy nurses, which has reduced same-day cancellations and improved patient experience.

Inspectors also highlighted the unit’s well-presented environment, providing a seamless and dignified pathway for patients.

Laura Neal, the Trust’s Director of Nursing, said:

“This is a tremendous achievement that reflects the hard work, professionalism, and dedication of the entire Endoscopy team.”

Steven Elsmore, Consultant Endoscopy Lead, added:

“We’re incredibly proud of this recognition.
"It reflects our commitment to providing safe, compassionate, and high-quality care for every patient.”

The Trust says the accreditation is an important milestone, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to delivering safe and effective healthcare for the Island community.
