Families on the Isle of Wight will be able to enjoy a range of Halloween-themed activities at local libraries during the October half-term, with free and low-cost events planned across the Island.

The programme includes spooky storytelling, arts and crafts, monster-making workshops and the chance to meet some nocturnal animals.

Lord Louis Library in Newport will launch its activities on Monday 19 October with a silly sock puppet workshop. Children can also take part in Halloween rock painting and sugar skull mask making.

Cowes and Ventnor libraries will host spooky storytelling sessions, with Ventnor welcoming back storyteller Salty Simon for a special Halloween event.

At Cowes, children can follow their spooky stories by creating their own eerie portraits.

Sandown Library will offer monster-themed junk modelling for children of all ages, alongside a Halloween clay foam workshop for youngsters aged four and over.

Animal lovers can meet some nocturnal creatures when the Bat Hospital visits Ryde Library.

The library will also hold a Halloween story time and bat-themed craft session on Saturday 31 October.

At Freshwater Library, children can make miniature books during the first week of half-term, followed by a workshop creating decorations from recycled books.

Development librarian Louise Emery says the programme aims to help families spend time together, learn new skills and explore what their local libraries have to offer.

More information about the half-term programme and regular library activities is available at iow.gov.uk/thelibrary. Families can also follow @IWLibraries on Facebook.
