Jhoots Pharmacy has officially ceased operating on the Isle of Wight, with the four remaining branches in East Cowes, Ryde, Sandown and Ventnor now acquired by Allied Pharmacies.
The company had faced ongoing criticism in recent months over staff shortages and management problems, which led to disruption in prescription services, repeated closures and significant concern among patients.
Some staff members also reportedly went unpaid for extended periods.
Earlier this year, the General Pharmaceutical Council launched an investigation into problems within the Jhoots business.
In November, the NHS removed the Ventnor branch from its pharmaceutical list, meaning it was no longer authorised to provide NHS services.
In a major development, Allied Pharmacies has now taken over 68 further Jhoots branches nationwide, adding to the 61 it had already acquired this year.
On the Island, Allied was already managing the Cowes Medical Centre pharmacy.
It will now also operate branches at East Cowes Medical Centre, Ryde Esplanade, Sandown Medical Centre and Albert Road in Ventnor.
Residents will now be hoping the takeover brings stability and restores confidence in local pharmacy services.
