Community groups, clubs and social enterprises across the Isle of Wight are being invited to apply for grants of up to £5,000 to help launch new projects supporting families, babies, children and carers.
The funding comes from the Isle of Wight Council’s Community Capacity Grant scheme, backed by children’s services, and aims to strengthen grassroots support networks across the Island.
The initiative encourages local organisations to create inclusive, engaging activities that make a real difference in people’s lives.
Last year, ten projects received funding — including a Ventnor skateboarding group set up by Sun Drum CIC alongside local coach John Cattle.
The sessions proved hugely popular with young people, one of whom said:
“Skate club makes me feel brave because I can try things I never thought I could do.”
Another successful project was the Isle of Wight Film School, which used its grant to run creative workshops in filmmaking and digital storytelling.
Director Laura Laurenson said:
“My involvement with the Community Capacity Grants provided an excellent foundation for developing a community-focused business.
"I’d highly recommend getting involved.”
This year’s scheme is particularly looking to fund projects that focus on:
Activities, clubs or groups for children aged five and over
Youth work, especially for pupils moving from Year 6 to Year 7
Family wellbeing sessions
Support for young carers
Perinatal mental health support for parents and carers, both before and after birth
Cllr Paul Brading, chair of the council’s children’s services, education and skills committee, said:
“These grants have already helped bring inspiring ideas to life, giving families new ways to connect, grow and thrive.
"We’re excited to see what this next round of funding will unlock.”
Applications must be submitted by 12 noon on Wednesday 20 November 2025.
To help applicants, the council will host two support sessions at County Hall, Newport:
Saturday 8 November, 1pm–3pm
Wednesday 12 November, 5pm–7pm
Anyone wishing to attend can book a place by emailing earlyhelpgrant@iow.gov.uk or calling 823169.
