The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for Lukely Brook, covering the area from Carisbrooke to Newport.

High river levels on Thursday, combined with heavy rainfall of 32mm, mean flooding is possible from 1pm on 18 December 2025.

The debris screen at Hunny Hill, near Hunnycross Way, is partially blocked, causing water levels to rise rapidly.

Footpaths near Towngate Retail Park may flood, and there is a risk of the river coming out of its banks at Foxes Lane, potentially impacting the aquatics centre.

Rain is expected to continue until around 4pm, with river levels and flood risk expected to reduce in Hunny Hill by 6pm.

The Environment Agency is working to clear debris from blocked screens, which should help water levels drop quickly once cleared.

Residents with properties next to the river, especially around Vicarage Walk, are advised to consider activating any flood protection measures.

The alert will be updated by 12pm on 19 December 2025 or sooner if conditions change.

What you should do:

  • Check the Environment Agency’s flood map for the latest information.

  • Be ready to act on your personal flood plan, if you have one.

  • Follow official guidance on what to do before or during a flood.
