Fashion and Textiles students from The Island VI Form wowed audiences earlier this month with their end-of-year runway show, Nocturnal Couture, held at Independent Arts in Newport.

The Year 13 students showcased garments inspired by insects and bioluminescence, exploring the idea of transformation after dark. Drawing influence from high-profile designers such as Alexander McQueen, Iris Van Herpen, and John Galliano, each piece incorporated glow-in-the-dark elements—from beading and thread to integrated lighting—creating designs that offered different effects by day and night.

The sold-out event raised over £220 for Independent Arts, a local charity that uses creative projects to support wellbeing and reduce isolation across the Isle of Wight.

Sarah Cox, course leader for Fashion and Textiles, said:

“I would like to congratulate this year's cohort. The outcomes that they have produced this year are a reflection of the hard work and determination that they have shown throughout the whole of their course.
"They all really embraced the challenge of adding bioluminescence to their garments, and they all produced unique and stunning pieces. We are expecting extremely impressive results in the summer, and I am looking forward to seeing where their talents will take them in the future.”

Applications are still open for current Year 11 students interested in joining the course this September, with single and double award options available. More details can be found at: www.theislandviform.org.uk/apply.
