Employers across the Isle of Wight are being encouraged to help shape the Island’s future workforce by taking part in a council-backed work experience event in Cowes.

The Modern Work Experience Co-Production Event will be held at Building 41 on Newport Road in Cowes on Friday 6 March, from 9am to 1pm. The session is free to attend.

The event is being delivered by the Solent Careers Hub in partnership with the Careers and Enterprise Company.

It will bring together employers and schools to design high-quality, meaningful work experience opportunities for young people.

Employers of all sizes — from small businesses to large organisations — are invited to attend, whether they already offer work experience or are considering getting involved.

Ahead of the event, businesses are asked to complete an Employer Standards self-assessment tool to help identify strengths and opportunities.

Support is available for those who need assistance completing it.

Councillor Paul Brading, chair of the children’s services, education and skills committee, said supporting young people is key to securing a skilled local workforce for the future.

The interactive session will explore what effective work experience looks like in practice, how to design skills-led placements, and opportunities to connect with local school leaders.
