The Isle of Wight Council has appointed Veolia to deliver recycling and waste management services across the Island as part of a new two-year contract.

The integrated contract began on April 1 and will see services provided to more than 73,000 households, as well as the operation of two Household Waste and Recycling Centres.

Residents are being reassured that there will be no immediate changes, with collection days and routines remaining exactly the same.

Households are advised to continue putting their bins out as normal, with no action required at this stage.

Veolia’s teams will also be responsible for operating and maintaining key waste infrastructure on the Island, including the Energy Recovery Facility and Materials Recovery Facility.

The appointment follows the early exit of a previous contractor, with the Council and Veolia working together in recent months to ensure services continue with minimal disruption for residents and businesses.

Natasha Dix, the Council’s Service Director for Waste, Environment and Planning, said:

“The Isle of Wight Council’s priority is, and always will be, providing a reliable, efficient and environmentally responsible waste service for our community.
“Our residents are already some of the most committed recyclers in the country, and this switch marks the next step in supporting the Island’s passion for protecting our beautiful environment.
“We’re pleased to be working with Veolia, who share our commitment to high standards and a sustainable future for our Island.
"Together, we will continue to build on the strengths of our community and deliver the service our residents deserve.
“For now, nothing changes for households - please put your bins out as normal.
"Collection days and routines stay exactly the same, and no action is needed from residents at this time.”

Ben Slater, Regional Director for Veolia, added:

“We are delighted to announce our partnership with the Isle of Wight Council and are ready to deliver essential, sustainable and high-quality services to residents and businesses across the Island.
“At Veolia, we have extensive experience in recycling and waste services and look forward to working with the Council to help recycle as much as possible while ensuring services continue without disruption.”
