Isle Of Wight Campsite Granted Alcohol And Entertainment Licence Despite Residents' Concerns

Adgestone Campsite Touring Park has been granted permission to sell alcohol seven days a week, despite objections from nearby residents.
The Isle of Wight Council's licensing subcommittee approved an amended application from Nationwide Lodges yesterday (Monday 12 October), allowing alcohol sales between 8am and 10pm daily.
The licence also covers live music from midday until 10pm, recorded music between 8am and 10pm, films from 5pm to 10pm and plays between 8am and 10pm.
The campsite will be permitted to extend these activities until 11pm on no more than six occasions each year, subject to conditions.
The decision follows discussions with the council's environmental health team and changes to the original proposals in response to residents' concerns.
A total of 23 objections were initially submitted, falling to 18 after the applicant provided further information. Concerns included noise from late-night entertainment and a potential increase in litter.
The campsite has since agreed to relocate its main activity area further away from neighbouring homes, introduce a noise management plan and use Biffa to manage waste disposal.
Subcommittee chair Cllr Julie Jones-Evans welcomed the changes, saying residents had been listened to.
She stressed that the noise management plan must be in place before any licensed activities begin.
The licence is also subject to conditions agreed with the police and council, including an age verification policy for alcohol sales.
Representing Nationwide Lodges, David Harrison said significant investment had already been made to revitalise the campsite, but further improvements were needed to secure its long-term future.
He said offering a wider range of entertainment would help attract more visitors from both on and off the Isle of Wight, adding that the business was also investing in CCTV to help prevent crime.
