A new grant programme has opened to support projects aimed at protecting and improving rivers and their catchments on the Isle of Wight.

Launched by the Island Rivers Partnership, the fund is hosted by Natural Enterprise and financed by Southern Water.

A total of £50,000 is available until March 2027, or until the funding has been fully allocated, with further funding rounds anticipated.

The programme will support collaborative environmental projects, including new initiatives and work already underway.

Applications are welcomed from partnership organisations, local stakeholders, landowners and land managers.

Projects should contribute to the Island Rivers Catchment Partnership’s priorities, which include restoring habitats, protecting wildlife, addressing physical changes to rivers and streams, building climate resilience, managing water resources and improving water quality.

Marianne Combe, Project Manager for Rivers and River Catchments, said:

“With funding from Southern Water, we are delighted to open this grant programme to support our island rivers and river catchments.
“We are looking for projects that demonstrate collaboration, clear environmental benefits and measurable outcomes for the Island’s rivers and river catchments.”
