Motorists across the Isle of Wight continue to face disruption as multiple roadworks take place at the same time in different parts of the Island, with residents increasingly expressing frustration at the scale of activity on the network.

In a statement, Island Roads acknowledged the level of disruption, saying:

“Island Road appreciates this is a period of intense activity on the network so we’d like to provide an update on our current schemes.”

The company added that it wants to assure the public that coordination is taking place where possible, stating:

“We wish to assure the public that we make every effort to coordinate our work to minimise disruption as much as possible, as the following update aims to illustrate.”

It also highlighted the ongoing challenge of balancing a large volume of highway works while trying to reduce impact during peak tourism months, saying this inevitably leads to a heavier concentration of schemes at other times of the year.

Binstead Road

Work on Binstead Road is nearing completion, with Island Roads saying it is “progressing well”.

The authority expects the road to reopen ahead of schedule, potentially on Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Wroxall Embankment Stabilisation

At Wroxall, stabilisation work has been extended in scope, but remains on track.

Completion is expected on Friday, subject to third-party utility works, with further updates promised at the end of the week.

Fairlee Road And Surrounding Works

While the main Fairlee Road closure is not an Island Roads scheme, the contractor says it is using the opportunity to carry out additional works to limit future disruption.

This includes resurfacing a section of the Racecourse approach to the Crematorium Roundabout.

Around 430 square metres will be resurfaced across Thursday and Friday, with traffic being marshalled through the site due to lighter volumes linked to the closure.

Island Roads also confirmed that the Isle of Wight Council has been carrying out tree pollarding in the area, while the local football club is undertaking access works for a new site.

The company itself is also completing work on a street lighting column.

Meanwhile, DARES, who are carrying out infrastructure improvements near The Orchards on Fairlee Road, are reported to be making good progress.

Freshwater, Newport And Bembridge Works

In Freshwater, resurfacing on Heathfield Road has been completed and the road is now open, although lining works will require a short evening closure in the coming days.

In Newport, Parkhurst Road resurfacing is scheduled to begin Thursday night, running overnight between 7.30pm and 6am, with completion expected Friday night.

Lining work is planned for Monday evening.

Howgate Road in Bembridge will follow next week, with daytime closures between 7.30am and 5pm, while remaining open outside working hours.

At Grange Farm on Military Road, work is expected to be completed by Friday, subject to materials arriving on time.

Lake And Cliff Road Works

Further resurfacing is planned in Lake next Thursday and Friday, covering southern and eastern sections of Cliff Way, with a later phase due for the northern cul-de-sac.

Brownlow and Ranelagh Roads will also be closed during the works between 8am and 6pm, with access maintained for residents where it is safe to do so.

Letters are being delivered to affected households.

Island Roads concluded its update by thanking residents, businesses and road users for their patience, stating:

“Once again, we would like to thank the community for their understanding during this busy period.”
