Families across the South are feeling the pinch as the cost-of-living crisis continues, with many struggling to afford basic hygiene essentials such as soap, toothpaste and shampoo.
The annual Soapbox Appeal has been launched to help tackle hygiene poverty, collecting toiletries and cleaning products throughout January for redistribution to those in need.
The Isle of Wight Library Service is once again lending its support to the campaign in 2026.
Last year, Islanders donated an impressive 24 boxes of items, which were shared among community pantries across the Island.
This year, organisers hope to beat that total.
All six council-run libraries — Cowes, Freshwater, Newport, Ryde, Sandown and Ventnor — will act as drop-off points for donations.
Islanders are encouraged to give new and unused personal care products such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and household cleaning items including washing up liquid, sponges, cloths and tissues.
At the end of the month, the Library Service will ensure the donations reach local community pantries, helping those who need them most.
