Island firefighter Kierhan Dry will take on the TCS London Marathon on Sunday 26th April to raise funds for Isle of Wight charity The Wight Brainy Bunch.
Despite being an experienced runner, this will be Kierhan’s first time competing in the iconic event, having secured the charity’s single marathon place.
As well as completing the 26.2-mile course, he is aiming to finish in under three hours.
But Kierhan says the challenge is about much more than personal achievement — it’s about supporting Island families affected by brain tumours, which can have life-changing and devastating impacts.
He said:
“This year I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise money for The Wight Brainy Bunch, which is such a fantastic charity close to my heart.
"It’s a huge personal challenge, but knowing the money raised will support such an important cause makes the training and the miles even more meaningful.
"There will definitely be tough moments, but knowing I’m running for The Wight Brainy Bunch will keep me going.
"I’m lucky to be able to run, so I want to use that opportunity to raise money for this charity who are doing incredible work.”
The Wight Brainy Bunch was founded by Ryde firefighter Mark Grimes and his wife following his brain tumour diagnosis in 2015.
The charity provides vital emotional and financial support to Isle of Wight families, funding services including travel assistance, counselling, cognitive rehabilitation, specialist equipment, and memory-making or respite breaks for those with terminal diagnoses.
Kat Grimes from The Wight Brainy Bunch said they are proud to have Kierhan representing the charity at such a prestigious event.
She said running a marathon is both a physical and mental challenge, requiring significant training and dedication, and wished him the very best of luck.
To support Kierhan’s fundraising efforts, donations can be made via his online page.
More information about the charity is available on its website.
