Island Charity Launches Christmas Appeal To Support Newport Creative Hub

Island creative health charity Independent Arts has launched its Creatively Connected Christmas campaign, aiming to raise £8,000 to keep its much-loved Creative Hub in Newport open — a vital space for Islanders who rely on creativity to support their mental and physical wellbeing.

Independent Arts has been helping people across the Island for more than 35 years, offering inclusive singing groups, arts workshops and evidence-based wellbeing programmes.

Its work supports people of all ages, helping to reduce loneliness, boost emotional wellbeing and improve quality of life.

At the centre of this work is the Creative Hub, open six days a week, providing a safe and friendly space where anyone can drop in, join simple creative activities, and connect with others.

For many, it’s the only place they feel comfortable, accepted and able to thrive.

This year’s appeal also includes a festive community project inspired by The Jolly Christmas Postman.

The Hub’s Christmas window celebrates kindness and connection, inviting visitors to write a card for someone living in a local care home who may be feeling lonely this Christmas.

Cards can be dropped off at the Hub and will be delivered before the festive season.

Christmas Opening Times

The Creative Hub will be open for drop-in creative activities on 29, 30 and 31 December, from 10am to 2pm, offering a warm space for creativity, companionship and wellbeing support.

"With the community’s support, we can keep that lifeline open and continue helping Islanders live well through everyday creativity.”

Donations Can Be Doubled
