Island ferry operator Red Funnel has been sold to investment company Njord Partners, marking what bosses are calling an “exciting new chapter” for the 164-year-old service.
The deal comes after a difficult few years for Red Funnel, with heavy debts limiting investment in its fleet and services.
The new owners say the takeover will give the company a stronger financial footing, paving the way for improvements and a better experience for passengers travelling across the Solent.
Njord Partners, which has a track record in turning around UK businesses in the maritime and hospitality sectors, says it is committed to restoring Red Funnel’s financial health and supporting its long-term success.

Red Funnel CEO Fran Collins said:
“Our priority is to ensure Red Funnel operates sustainably and responsibly for decades to come.
"Partnering with Njord Partners gives us the platform to support our ambitious future plans.”
Njord’s founding partner Jakob Kjellberg added:
“Red Funnel is a vital part of the Isle of Wight’s economy and community — a true backbone of the Solent.
"We’re excited to support its next chapter and help deliver the reliable, efficient service that islanders and visitors deserve.”
