A Newport primary school is celebrating a strong Ofsted report which recognises its transformation since the last inspection.

Hunnyhill Primary School has been rated ‘Good’ in every area following a July 2025 inspection — a significant step up from its previous ‘Requires Improvement’ judgement in 2022.

Inspectors praised the school’s inclusive curriculum, stronger teaching, and focus on reading, noting that pupils — including those with SEND — are now achieving well.

They highlighted polite and respectful behaviour, a strong start for children in early years, and the way pupils are given leadership roles and responsibilities.

Staff wellbeing and support were also commended.

Headteacher Lisa Steedman said:

“To achieve ‘Good’ in every area is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the hard work of our pupils and the support of our families.
"Hunnyhill is a school where children are not only achieving well but growing in confidence and character.”

The school is also preparing to formally join Ormiston Academies Trust from 1st October, after working informally with the trust over the past year.

Leaders say the move will allow Hunnyhill to share best practice with other schools and continue its upward journey.
