Isle of Wight food brand Hungry Bear has announced a new partnership, following the end of its collaboration with The Crab and Lobster Inn.

The venture, led by executive chef Stuart Downes, had been working with the Bembridge pub to strengthen its food offering.

During that time, Hungry Bear helped improve hygiene standards, delivered its popular Christmas dining experience, and built a loyal following with its well-known Sunday roasts.

Stuart Downes has now confirmed the partnership has come to a close, with the business moving in a new direction.

Hungry Bear is teaming up with The Events Co, founded by Khia Janzen, in what’s being described as an “exciting new chapter” for both brands.

The collaboration will officially launch this Easter Sunday with the return of The Hungry Bear Delivery service — making a comeback after nearly two years.

Early demand has already been strong, with orders exceeding expectations ahead of the relaunch.

As part of the new setup, Hungry Bear is now a newly registered food business and is awaiting its official food hygiene inspection.

In the meantime, it will operate from The Events Co’s existing four-star rated prep kitchen, which was last inspected in October 2025.

Speaking about the move, Stuart Downes said:

“We’re incredibly excited for this new era for Hungry Bear.
"This Easter is just the beginning, with much more to come over the summer and beyond.”

Khia Janzen of The Events Co added:

“I’m delighted to be partnering with Stuart on this exciting new chapter for Hungry Bear.
"By aligning our strengths, we’re looking forward to working together to strengthen both our brands and deliver something special for the Island community.”

The partnership is expected to lead to further expansion, with new products, events and experiences set to be announced in the coming months.

Hungry Bear was originally founded in 2017 and has previously been based at The Rectory Mansion.

The brand has built a strong reputation locally for its high-quality, comfort-style dining — particularly its Sunday roasts and seasonal offerings.

The Events Co is known across the Island for delivering bespoke events and catering services, working with both private clients and commercial partners.
