Island motorists will be hit by a one-way system between Newport and Cowes, which is set to be in place until the summer months.

The closure is a result of junction work and utility installation on Horsebridge Hill/Newport Road from May 12 until July 4.

It comes as a result of the new Three Oaks housing development.

The closure will see traffic going towards Cowes diverted via Whitehouse Road, Forest Road, Pallance Road and Rolls Hill.

The main road from Cowes will be open in the direction of Newport only.

Normal traffic flow is likely to be restored for the Isle of Wight Festival weekend from June 19 to 22.

Those going towards St Mary's hospital and nearby prisons and housing estates will have access from the Newport end, with the one-way section in place between Nicholson Street and Partridge Road.
