A bid to build six new houses in Cowes has hit a roadblock – with Island Roads raising strong objections over parking and safety concerns.

Developer Jack Reynolds wants to put up six two-bedroom homes with parking on land next to 20 and 27 Westwood Close. His agent, BCM Wilson Hill, says the scheme would sit in a “sustainable location” close to Cowes and Gurnard, providing smaller family housing in keeping with the area.

But Island Roads has urged the Isle of Wight Council to refuse the application, warning that the proposed parking bays are too small, too close to a junction and lack adequate visibility.

In its objection, Island Roads said the plans would have “implications affecting the highway network” and that it “raises an objection”.

If approved, the development would include a terrace of four houses and a pair of semis, designed to match nearby homes in height, style and materials.

Each would have a modest rear garden and open frontage.

Public consultation on the plans (25/01013/FUL) runs until September 8, with a decision expected by September 29.
