The Isle of Wight’s new High Sheriff has visited a popular community event to raise awareness of a campaign focused on later life planning.

Nigel Hartley attended April’s Chatty Brew session hosted by Age UK Isle of Wight at Thompson’s Garden Centre, where he met with more than 60 attendees.

During the visit, he spoke about his campaign My Life. My Death. My Plan., which aims to encourage people to feel more informed and prepared when it comes to planning ahead in later life.

The event brought together older Islanders in a relaxed setting, giving them the opportunity to discuss the campaign and share their views.

Representatives from Age UK Isle of Wight, including President Nick Hayward and members of the charity’s board, were also in attendance.

Speaking at the event, Nigel Hartley said the session had been “lively” with plenty of conversation, adding that the campaign is about helping people ensure they have plans in place and are supported in later life.

Age UK Isle of Wight says the visit helped bring an important Island-wide conversation into a welcoming community environment, while also highlighting the role events like Chatty Brew play in keeping people connected.

The charity is continuing to support the campaign and is encouraging more volunteers to come forward to help run future events.
