Island motorists and bus passengers are facing significant disruption today (Tuesday) due to a combination of emergency works and ongoing road closures across the north of the Island.
🚗Cowes and Newport – Burst Water Main on Horsebridge Hill
A burst water main on Horsebridge Hill is causing heavy congestion in both directions, with traffic towards Newport backed up from Partridge Road to the County Showground, and queues towards Cowes stretching as far as St Mary’s Junction.
Southern Water engineers are carrying out emergency repairs, with temporary traffic lights currently in place near Partridge Road.
The incident has also led to low water pressure and supply interruptions for nearby residents, although bottled water has been made available.
Southern Vectis Route 1 buses are experiencing delays during peak times.
The Lonsdale Avenue stop (Newport-bound) is currently closed, and passengers are being advised to use Chapel Corner instead.
There’s further disruption in Cowes as Park Road remains closed for separate emergency works, meaning Route 1 buses are not serving Round House (Cowes-bound), IW Community Club, Parklands Avenue, or Rashley’s until further notice.
Drivers are being urged to allow extra time or seek alternative routes while repairs continue.
🚦 Wootton and Ryde – Delays from Ongoing Roadworks
Meanwhile, roadworks in Wootton High Street have led to temporary traffic lights, causing delays for Southern Vectis routes 4 and 9.
Journey times through the area may be longer than usual.
In Ryde, roadworks on Queens Road are also affecting traffic flow, adding to congestion around the town.
Bus passengers are advised to check Southern Vectis’ live updates before travelling, as several routes across the north-east of the Island may be impacted.
